COVID-19: 86 new cases; 1,774 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Thursday, announced 86 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 83,248.      

According to HPA, the 86 new cases include; 34 cases from the greater Male’ region, 36 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 16 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 144 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 81,234.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,774 active cases.      

There are 17 patients in hospitals.      

5,127 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,769 from the greater Male' region.    

With the 86 new infections this Thursday, 773 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.

Maldives has recorded 227 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August.

As of Wednesday, 390,285 people have received their first dose and 328,630 people have been fully vaccinated.
