Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Reeko Moosa Manik has said that the party will obtain majority at the next Parliament Elections, which is sufficient to remove Judges from their posts.
The Hulhuhenveiru MP said while speaking on Raajje TV last night that once MDP obtains majority at the Parliament, the party can control Judges.
He said that Judges are currently being controlled by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
“Tomorrow when we obtain majority enough to remove Judges, the Judges will come for this. They will stay awake and wait by the Parliament building. They will do everything that is asked of them. They will give people’s houses. They will even divorce their wives and have them marry Members of Parliament,” he said.
Referring to the refusal by the three Judges of Hulhumale’ Court to attend Parliament’s Government Accountability Committee when summoned, Moosa said that the Supreme Court decided in 2011 that every citizen should comply when summoned by Parliament Committees.
He said that the Judges were summoned in order to hold them accountable to the public, and that Judges cannot boycott the Committee, as the Supreme Court’s 2011 decision had not been exempted by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Moosa criticised JSC and said that instead of being an independent institution, it acted as an arm of the judiciary.
He said that JSC, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Police and Civil Service Commission (CSC) are all political parties.
Moosa said that he was injured by security forces on 8 February 2012, but this was ignored by all Judges and all people in general.
“Nobody seems to have seen me being harmed and injured. Not even Judges. I was injured for criticising Gayoom. I will still criticise him, until the day I die,” he said.
