COVID-19: R. Rasmaadhoo placed under monitoring

R. Rasmaadhoo was placed under monitoring this Saturday, in response to a COVID-19 case. 

Rasmaadhoo Council’s president Mohamed Asif identified the positive case in the island as an employee at the school library. 

Asif told Sun that the employee recently travelled to Male’ City, and returned to the Rasmaadhoo with proof of a negative PCR result as required by Health Protection Agency (HPA). 

“The employee reported to work two days after returning from Male’. The school then asked the employee to remain home after the employee began exhibiting flu symptoms. The results came back positive last night,” said Asif. 

Asif said that local authorities have begun contact tracings, and that some 20 people, including children, are believed to have had contact with the employee. 

Asif said that the entire eligible adult population in Rasmaadhoo have been fully vaccinated, while children between 12 and 17 years have received their first dose. 

It marks the second time for Rasmaadhoo to be placed under monitoring since the pandemic began. The island was last placed under monitoring three months back.
