COVID-19: 103 new cases, 68 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 103 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 80,539.      

According to HPA, the 103 new cases include; 20 cases from the greater Male’ region, 68 cases from residential islands outside Male’ and 15 cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 180 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 78,694.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,607 active cases.      

There are 11 patients in hospitals.      

4,721 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,478 from the greater Male' region.

Maldives has recorded 225 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. The country has fully vaccinated 84 percent of its eligible population – closing in on the target.

On Friday, a total of 1,366 people had gotten their first dose whereas a total of 407 people had gotten their second dose.

With these new developments, a total of 381,745 people have received their first dose out of which 301,078 people have completed the second dose.
