COVID-19: 108 new cases, 59 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Thursday, announced 108 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 80,436.      

According to HPA, the 108 new cases include; 35 cases from the greater Male’ region, 59 cases from residential islands outside Male’ and 14 cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 106 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 78,514.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,684 active cases.      

There are 14 patients in hospitals.      

5,681 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,886 from the greater Male' region.

Maldives has recorded 225 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. The country has fully vaccinated 84 percent of its eligible population – closing in on the target.

On Thursday, a total of 1,000 people had gotten their first dose whereas a total of 244 people had gotten their second dose.

With these new developments, a total of 380,379 people have received their first dose out of which 300,671 people have completed the second dose.
