The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has won all three by-elections held today.
Results announced by the Elections Commission (EC) shows that M. Mulaku Council by-election was won by PPM candidate Ali Ibrahim with 677 votes. Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Ibrahim Latheef got 478 votes, and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) candidate Adam Hassan got 187 votes.
The temporary results show that L. Maabaidhoo Council by-election was won by PPM candidate Hassan Adil with 198 votes. MDP candidate Abdullah Rasheed got 168 votes, and independent candidate Ahmed Shujau got 89 votes.
F. Bilaiydhoo Council by-election was won by PPM candidate Shareef Idrees with 342 votes. MDP candidate Razmeena Afeef got 298 votes.
Elections Commission said that the by-election for Ga. Kanduhulhudhoo Council will be held on 15 November. The candidates contesting in this election are PPM’s Rishana Abdul Azeez and MDP’s Ahmed Shaheem.
The by-election for the Parliament seat for Ungoofaaru, following the murder of MP Dr Afrasheem Ali, will be held on 1 December. The contesting candidates are PPM’s Ibrahim Ameen, MDP’s Dr Ahmed Ashraf Ali and independent candidate Najih Jinah.
