COVID-19: 110 new cases, 27 from Male’ area

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 110 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 80,328.      

According to HPA, the 110 new cases include; 27 cases from the greater Male’ region, 76 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 4 cases from operational resorts, and 3 cases from liveaboards. 

Meanwhile, 114 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 78,408.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,682 active cases.      

There are 13 patients in hospitals.      

5,569 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 2,187 from the greater Male' region.    

With the 110 new infections this Wednesday, 803 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.   

August 25: 110 cases 

August 24: 151 cases 

August 23: 108 cases 

August 22: 95 cases 

August 21: 110 cases 

August 20: 95 cases 

August 19: 134 cases 

Maldives has recorded 225 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. The country began vaccinating children above the age of 12 years last week.  

As of Tuesday, 379,379 people have received their first dose and 300,427 people have been fully vaccinated.
