Active cases of COVID-19 in AA. Himandhoo - placed under monitoring by Health Protection Agency (HPA) earlier this August - have risen to 119.

Himandhoo was placed under monitoring on August 3, after four direct contacts of a confirmed case tested positive for COVID-19.

Himandhoo has confirmed 262 cases, 143 of whom have since recovered. There are currently 119 active cases in the island.

An official from Himandhoo Health Center told Sun on Tuesday afternoon that while the active cases in the island include 15 high-risk patients, all patients are in relatively good health.

Himandhoo Health Center expects it will take about a month for things to return to normal in the island.

The four initial cases in August were direct contacts of an individual who travelled to Himandhoo for the Eid holidays. The individual in question tested positive for COVID-19 upon return to Male’.

Himandhoo has been placed under monitoring twice since the pandemic began. A patient from Himandhoo who was transferred to the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility recently died, while two expectant mothers who tested positive have also been transferred to the capital.

Himandhoo Health Center reports none of the high-risk patients currently in the island are in serious condition.
