Elderly woman quarantined in Addu dies; 124th Covid death

An elderly woman in quarantine in Addu City has passed away. 

Addu Equatorial Hospital identified the deceased as a 92-year-old Maldivian female. 

The woman, who was transferred to Addu Covid Management Facility, was declared dead at 07:20 am this Monday. 

An official from Addu Equatorial Hospital told Sun the woman had been a direct contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case. 

Samples taken following her death tested positive for COVID-19. 

The woman had been in home quarantine with her family.

She was already deceased when taken to the Addu Covid Management Facility.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed the death of the elderly woman as a COVID-19 related death. 

“This is the 224th COVID-19 death in the Maldives,” announced HPA. 

Maldives has 79,959 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 95 new cases recorded on Sunday. 78,076 patients have since recovered. 

The country currently has 1,648 active cases. 16 of the patients are hospitalized.
