COVID-19: 95 new cases, 56 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 95 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 79,959.      

According to HPA, the 95 new cases include; 26 cases from the greater Male’ region, 56 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 13 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 123 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 78,076.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,648 active cases.      

There are 16 patients in hospitals.      

5,673 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,795 from the greater Male' region.

August 17: 130 cases 

August 16: 152 cases 

Maldives has recorded 223 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. 

On Sunday, a total of 3,301 people had gotten their first dose whereas a total of 659 people had gotten their second dose.

With these new developments, a total of 368,148 people have received their first dose out of which 299,077 people have completed the second dose.
