Additional three islands have been placed under monitoring mechanisms yesterday subsequent to some samples taken from each island coming back positive.
Accordingly, the islands placed under monitoring as of yesterday are R. Alifushi, M. Maduvvari, and GA. Kanduhulhudhoo.
Speaking to Sun last night, Alifushi Council President Adam Imran had noted that the island was brought under monitoring mechanisms after one person had tested positive from 16 people randomly tested as they were exhibiting symptoms.
“From the 16 samples taken – only one had come back positive. That is of a child who is studying in UKG. Everyone else’s samples came back negative,” he had said.
Imran also added that contract tracing has begun following the identification of a positive case.
This is the second time Alifushi has been brought under monitoring mechanisms.
Maduvvari Council Member Fathimath Shara had told Sun that the island was placed under after one sample from 30 taken from the island had come back positive.
“This island was placed under monitoring after one of the samples from the 30 samples taken from the island had come back positive. The person who tested positive is a 13-year-old studying in 7th grade. We have identified 23 persons as direct contacts so far,” she had said.
Kanduhulhudhoo Council President Thoriq Afeef had told Sun that the island was placed under monitoring mechanisms after one of the four samples taken from the island from persons exhibiting symptoms had returned positive.
“The person who had tested positive is middle-aged. It has been a long time since the person has traveled out of the island,” he said.
In addition to this, Thoriq noted that contact tracting worlds were ongoing at the island – in which 28 samples have been taken up until now from contacts.
Thoriq also noted that 98 percent of the residents in Kanduhulhudhoo have completed both doses of the vaccine.
With these new developments, there are 19 islands currently under monitoring mechanism. They are:
