President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the Government is targeting to administer the first dose to all children by the end of this month.
The President had revealed this while speaking at a ceremony held this morning at Rehendhi School to mark the beginning of the academic new year. In his speech, President Solih stated that a special vaccine program aimed at inoculating children between the age of 12 and 17 is set to commence soon – for which preparations are already underway. He also highlighted the importance of the public's readiness to participate in the vaccine program.
President Solih also stressed on remaining vigilant against the new COVID-19 variants despite reaching this new normal. Henceforth, he urged parents, teachers, and students to strictly adhere to all COVID-19 control measures in place and work together in order to maintain the momentum established right now in curbing the spread of the virus in Maldives.
Children between the age of 12 and 17 will be administered the Pfizer vaccine.
While the vaccination drive in the Maldives is going ahead at full speed, a total of 287,599 persons have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of today.
At present, three types of COVID-19 vaccines are being administered in the Maldives being Covishield/AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, and Pfizer. Apart from these vaccines, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and Sputnik V have also been approved for emergency use in the country.
