An employee at the regional hospital in R. Ungoofaaru has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting health authorities to place the island under monitoring for the third time since the pandemic began.
Ungoofaaru Council president Abdulla Rasheed told Sun last Monday night that the island was placed under monitoring after a female employee at the hospital tested positive.
Contact tracing is in progress.
“Ungoofaaru was placed under monitoring tonight after a flu sample taken from Ungoofaaru Hospital tested positive. The individual in question is a 25-year-old woman. She is a resident of this island and an employee at the hospital,” he said.
There are 13 residential islands outside the greater Male’ region under monitoring at present. They are:
