VP praises restrictive measures taken against COVID-19

Vice President Faisal Naseem has praised the restrictive measures taken against COVID-19 in the Maldives at the moment.

VP Faisal met with the officials from Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) at Dharubaaruge this morning, where he was briefed on the latest updates on the current COVID-19 situation. He was joined by the Minister of Health, Health Ministry’s State Ministers Dr. Shah Abdul Mahir and Ahmed Adil, and senior officials of HEOC.

Following the briefing, VP Faisal noted that hospitalizations have dropped significantly, indicating that restrictive measures working. However, he added that there was still room for operational improvements.

VP Faisal also inquired about the quarantine and isolation facilities and advised that they should adapt to the current situation accordingly. 

Health Minister Ahmed Naseem who took part in the meeting stressed the importance of encouraging vaccination and increasing vaccination numbers.

Officials from HEOC also instructed VP Faisal about possible insinuations of the eased restrictions but reiterated that traveling between islands should be limited unless it is absolutely necessary.
