Addu eases more restrictions as COVID-19 situation improves

Addu City Council has decided to ease some of the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, and Feydhoo.

The council has announced that starting this Saturday, mosques in Hithadhoo district have been allowed to reopen for congregational prayers with social distancing. However, the 21:00-04:00 curfew remains in place in Hithadhoo. Health Protection Agency (HPA) requires the curfew to remain in place for as long as the district remains under monitoring.

Additional easements include allowing teashops, cafes and restaurants to reopen for dine-in services in accordance with HPA’s guidelines. Dine-in services are allowed between 08:00-18:00 hours, and delivery services are allowed until 22:00 hours.

Meanwhile, barber’s shops, salons and gyms have been allowed to open from 08:00-18:00 hours.

Sports activities are allowed between 15:00-18:00, but sports competitions remain banned.

Addu City began easing the restrictions after the situation began improving in the city back in June.

According to the latest updates released by Addu Equatorial Hospital, Addu recorded just one new case last Friday.

Addu has 501 confirmed cases. 447 have since recovered, and the active cases stand at 52. Three of the patients are hospitalized.

46 of the active cases are in Hithadhoo, while the remaining six cases are in Maradhoo. No other districts have active cases.
