Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed will be heading to the United Kingdom (UK), to undergo further treatment, according to his office.
After undergoing treatment for serious wounds sustained in the terror attack against him on May 6, Nasheed departed to Germany for further treatment on the night of May 13.
A statement released by his office today confirmed that Nasheed will be heading to the UK for further treatment upon the referral of his doctors in Germany.
The statement also noted that Nasheed was grateful for the doctors and aides who treated him at the Berlin Bundeswehr Hospital during his time there.
Nasheed’s office also extended gratitude on his behalf towards the consulates of Maldives in Germany and in the UK in addition to the Ambassadors and employees at the embassy. The office also thanked well-wishers on behalf of Nasheed.
A homemade remote-controlled IED was strapped to a motorcycle parked nearby Nasheed’s residence and was detonated at 08:27 pm on May 6, just as Nasheed, 54, exited his residence and went to get in his car. Nasheed was thrown to the ground and sustained multiple shrapnel wounds. Some people close to Nasheed have noted he has still not regained full function of some of his body parts.
