Earthquake hits near Lanka, no threat to Maldives

Around 20:06 tonight, an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude has occurred near the south of Sri Lanka. 

According to Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office), the earthquake was recorded 10 kilometers below the Indian Ocean.

Met Office further said that the earthquake posed no threat to the Maldives having occurred 968 kilometers away from Male’ City.

This earthquake is the most powerful to hit so close to the Maldives as of recent.
