Police search car used to transport body of 13-year-old murder victim

Hulhumale' Phase II.

Police on Wednesday searched the car used to transport the body of the 13-year-old boy who was kidnapped and found murdered and dumped in a suitcase in the lagoon northeast of Hulhumale’ Phase II.

A police spokesperson confirmed they have searched the car used to transport the young boy’s body to the area.

The spokesperson said the car was a taxi, but decline to disclose any further details citing it may impede the ongoing investigation.

Police have not disclosed whether they extracted any evidence from the car, or whether they believe the driver to be involved.

The young boy was reported missing by his family on Sunday. The police were investigating the case as a possible kidnapping, when the Hulhumale' police received a report on Monday evening of a child being tortured in the restricted area of Hulhumale' Phase II, prompting the police to search the area.

The young boy's body was found in a suitcase in the shallow waters to the northeast of Hulhumale’ Phase II at 02:38 am on Tuesday.

Police have made two arrests in connection to the case; a 17-year-old Maldivian male and a 27-year-old Maldivian male.

The 27-year-old has been remanded in jail pending the outcome of trial, while the 17-year-old has been remanded in jail for 15 days.

Police have stated they  intend to have an autopsy done to determine the exact cause of death.
