Three candidates express interest for Ungoofaaru by-election

Three individuals have expressed interest to contest in the parliament by-election for R. Ungoofaaru constituency, following the brutal murder earlier this month of Ungoofaaru MP, Dr Afrasheem Ali.

The by-election will be held on 1 December.

The deadline for expressing interest was up yesterday, and Elections Commission (EC) said that applications were received from one PPM member, one MDP member and one independent member.

EC said that the names will be announced on Wednesday.

The PPM candidate is Dr Afrasheem’s younger sibling, Ibrahim Ameen; while the MDP candidate is Dr Ahmed Ashraf Ali. The independent candidate is not yet known.
