A foreign advisor has been appointed to the role of advising the Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer.
The Finance Ministry said that the internationally acclaimed Dr. Shanta Devarajan was appointed as the advisor of the Finance Minister. Dr. Devarajan served as Senior Director for Development Economics (DEC) and the acting World Bank Group Chief Economist.
He is also a professor in the Practice of International Department of the Georgetown University. He also served as the Chief Economist of the World Bank’s Middle East and North Africa Region and even worked on the World Development Report of 2004. Dr. Devarajan even worked at the Harvard University up until 1991.
Mr. Devarajan received his B.A. in mathematics from Princeton University and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer said that the appointment of Dr. Devarajan would help a lot in the efforts to overcome the situation with COVID-19, rebuild the economy and safeguard it against such future disasters, in addition, to building and strengthening ties with the international community.
