Mosques in the capital Male' City are to be closed starting from tomorrow due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the capital.

In a statement issued tonight, the Islamic Ministry announced that mosques in the capital are to be closed due to the surge of virus cases. The statement read that it was a preventive measure against the spread of COVID-19.

The Ministry said that it had consulted with the Supreme Council for Fatwa on the matter before making the decision.

The Ministry urged everyone to pray five times a day even if unable to attend mosques for congregational prayers.
