Caretaker caught on video beating patient at COVID-19 facility

A caretaker of a patient admitted at the Hulhumale' Medical Facility has been caught on video hitting and abusing the patient. 

The caretaker was appointed by the family of the patient. Video footage of the incident which is now going viral on social media shows the caretaker appearing to hit or slap the patient, who is then seen crying and howling with pain. Many are berating the unknown caretaker on social media due to his actions. 

President's Office Spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez confirmed that the video showed the Hulhumale' Medical Facility and that the individual was appointed to take care of the patient. 

"He has now been separated, and the family has been informed. The medical team of the Hulhumale' Medical Facility is now attending to the patient," said Mabrouq who added that the authorities had also been informed of the incident. 

Police later stated that they have received complaints of a case where the caretaker of an elderly patient had harmed the patient. 

Police also confirmed that a 31-year old Bangladeshi national was arrested in relation to the incident before adding that an investigation was now underway.
