MNDF, Police alert levels raised after attack on ex-President Nasheed

The security alert status of the Maldives has been raised by Police and the army after the attack on the former President and current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed. 

Speaker Nasheed was wounded after an explosion near his residence of G. Kenereege earlier tonight. He was getting into his car when the explosion happened. Nasheed was taken to the ADK Hospital where he is still receiving treatment. His condition is now stable, according to ADK. 

After the attack Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and Police raised the security alert levels. Police said that alert level was raised to level 3 and the attack is being investigated with the utmost priority.

MNDF said that the explosion happened at the end of the Keneree Magu junction which meets with the Majeedhee Magu. MNDF and Police are working at the scene even now and the area has been cordoned off to the public. MNDF security status has also been raised due to the attack. 

Home Minister Imran Abdulla has stated that the investigation into the attack would be of utmost priority and that Nasheed has no life-threatening injuries.
