Addu City Hulhumeedhoo under monitoring mechanisms

The island of Hulhumeedhoo in Addu City has been placed under monitoring mechanisms after the detection of COVID-19 cases. 

The island was placed under measures for further assessment in relation to the cases confirmed from the island, according to the HPA directive issuing the order. 

A number of islands in the Maldives have confirmed cases of the virus recently and the number of cases in inhabited islands apart from the capital has also increased significantly recently. 

More than 450 cases were confirmed yesterday alone with current active cases at above 4,000.

Cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the southern city on previous occasions as well, and an outbreak was also detected in Hulhumeedhoo earlier this year.
