More cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed from the southern island of GDh. Thinadhoo, bringing the total number of cases from the island to 10.
The Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in Thinadhoo stated that the new positive case was an Indian national who was quarantined on the island. The individual tested positive for the virus upon quarantine release samples collected on April 26.
Contact tracing done on the case identified direct contacts out of which four people tested positive for the virus. The number of active cases on the island has now reached 10, according to the hospital.
Thinadhoo was placed under monitoring on April 25 after an individual not in quarantine on the island tested positive for the virus.
While the Maldives has seen a recent spike in cases, the caseload confirmed from other inhabited islands in the Maldives has also increased significantly. The Maldives last night alone confirmed a record number of cases with more than 450 cases in 24 hours.
