Dhaandhoo Council President arrested with two suspected drugs packets

President of Ga. Dhaandhoo Council, Imran Waheed, 44, of Dhandige, Ga. Dhaandhoo, was arrested yesterday with two packets containing a substance suspected to be drugs.

A Dhaandhoo Council Member said that he was arrested last night at around 8:15pm.

Police said that a 44-year-old man was checked on the street in Dhaandhoo last night at around 8:15pm subsequent to receiving intelligence information, and that the man was arrested when Police found two packets in his possession, containing a substance suspected to be drugs.

The Police did not give any further details.

An official of Ga. Nilandhoo Magistrate Court said that Dhaandhoo Council President Imran’s detention period was extended by 15 days this evening, when he was produced in Court by the Police.

A Dhaandhoo Council Member said today that Imran, who was elected to Dhaandhoo Council on Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) ticket, was arrested for a drug-related crime earlier this year as well.
