Security operation for alleged possession of weapons; discovers toy gun

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has stated that an operation conducted with weapons was carried out after receiving reports of individuals possessing weaponry in a residence of the capital. 

MNDF said that the operation was a police operation and that the army was assisting the police in the operation. MNDF specified that upon raiding the residence, it was discovered that the alleged weapon was actually toy gun. 

The operation saw security forces raid a residence in the Maafannu ward of the capital. The residence is located in Muiveyo Magu of Male' City.

Security services conducted the operation with weapons after cordoning off the road in the capital Male’ City. Police media officials could not be contacted for an official comment. 

Journalists of Sun at the scene also reported that the security forces were operating inside a residence of the road but that it remained unclear what the purpose of the operation was. The owner of the residence had also stated that they did not know what the operation was about.
