Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) states that a person who tested positive for COVID-19 in Hithadhoo district of Addu City was found to have violated quarantine rules and had contact with over a dozen people.

AEH states that 14 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Addu in recent, all of whom were in home quarantine after travelling to the city. One of them was found to have violated quarantine rules and had direct contact with multiple residents of the city.

AEH said that the person in question is refusing to cooperate with authorities in contact tracing. While 17 direct contacts have been identified so far, the actual number is expected to be higher.

The person in question tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, April 6.

AEH said that the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has yet to make a decision on taking random samples in the Hithadhoo district or place the region under monitoring.

The case comes less than a month after authorities lifted restrictions in Addu following COVID-19 outbreaks which spread across all districts of the city infecting at least 92 people.
