Man arrested for misappropriation of money to be deposited to bank

Police have commenced investigation of an employee of Global Links Pvt Ltd, who tried to escape with more than MVR100,000 entrusted to him to be deposited to the bank.

Inspector of Police Abdullah Shatheeh told reporters at a press conference at Shaheed Hussain Adam Building tonight that the person arrested at around 9:30pm last night for this crime is the office boy of Global Links Pvt Ltd, Mohamed Muaz, 36, of Season Vaadhee, S. Meedhoo.

Shatheeh said that the money was handed over to Muaz yesterday morning to be deposited to the bank, and that the company reported the case to the Police when they did not hear from him afterwards.

The Police arrested Muaz following a special operation, and when questioned, Muaz agreed to having used some of the money.

Police also found the money hidden in a sack in the stairwell of an unoccupied house in Henveiru.

“MVR4,500 was missing when we discovered the money. We would like to note that the company cooperated with the Police in making this operation successful,” Shatheeh said.
