Maldives' tourism indicators show strong growth in Central, Eastern Europe

The Tourism Ministry of the Maldives stated that the nation had received a total of 269,504 tourists in 2021 so far. 

In March so far, the Maldives recorded 80,501 tourists, with average calculations standing at 3,355 tourists per day. In February 96,882 tourists were recorded while in January, saw 92,103 tourist arrivals. 

On average, tourists spend around 8.7 days in the Maldives with current operational tourist facilities numbering 691. 

Highest Tourist Markets

  • India: 64,059 tourists
  • Russia: 58,679 tourists
  • Ukraine: 16,915 tourists
  • Kazakhstan: 11,941 tourists
  • Germany: 11,763 tourists

Other top source markets include Romania, Czech Republic, France, the USA, and Switzerland. 

The Tourism Ministry also said that more and more tourists were being recorded from the Eastern Europe and Central Europe regions, showing consistent and strong growth in the markets with a 102 percent increase. More than 120,000 tourists have been recorded from the regions so far in 2021. 

29 airlines are currently operating to the Maldives. The Maldives has set out a target of achieving 1.5 million tourist arrivals in 2021. The Maldives was declared as the World's Leading Tourist Destination in 2020.
