A COVID-19 case detected in the island of R. Ungoofaaru has led to monitoring mechanisms being placed on the island.
Ungoofaaru Council President Abdul Nasir Ali stated to Sun that the individual who tested positive on the island was tested after being symptomatic for the virus.
"The person was tested after becoming symptomatic. The individual's spouse travels to Male' City. The individual has a boat. Travels every week. Every ten days or so," said Nasir.
Nasir added that samples were being collected from the remaining crew of the boat.
A signed directive by the HPA read that the island was placed under monitoring mechanisms until further notice.
The order means that travel to and from the island is for the time being prohibited.
