COVID-19: Maldives records 65th virus related death

A 79-year old woman receiving treatment for COVID-19 has passed away in the Maldives, bringing the total number of deaths recorded in relation to the virus in the nation to 65.

The woman was receiving treatment at the DH11 facility of Dharumavantha Hospital when she passed away. 

Maldives today confirmed 186 new cases of the virus, bringing the total number of cases above 22,000. 

Currently, there are more than 2,400 active cases, with the main epicenter still being the congested capital Male' City. 

Since the turn of the year, the Maldives has experienced an upward tick of cases that have not subsided, despite a high number of vaccinations. The increase in cases has led the authorities to place more measures in the capital.
