The most famous of the police K-Nine unit, Shakira has passed away.
Shakira was among the 17 dogs brought into the Maldives to take part and assist in the drug operations of the police.
She gained the most popularity with the public from the dog squad and was often seen in operations across the capital. Shakira is a golden retriever.

Shakira fell ill before passing away, according to police. Along with Shakira, two more dogs of the squad also passed away.
Currently, 15 dogs remain in the K-Nine unit.
The dogs were brought into the Maldives during the administration of President Abdulla Yameen. Former Home Minister Umar Naseer spearheaded the move.
Police, after bringing in the dogs, publicized photos of the dogs. Police said that they had not named the dogs and that the dogs would not respond to any other names. The dogs were brought in from the Netherlands.
