COVID-19: 153 new cases, active cases at 2,406

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced 153 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 21,819.

According to HPA, the new cases include;132 cases from the greater Male’ region, 13  cases from residential islands outside Male', two cases from operational resorts, three from liveaboards, and three from islands under development.

Meanwhile, 97 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 19,342.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 2,406 active cases.

There are 126 patients in hospitals.

4,553 samples (including repeated samples) have been tested for the COVID-19 over the last 24-hours.

Caseload over the week

  • March 16: 153 cases
  • March 15: 94 cases
  • March 14: 96 cases
  • March 13: 94 cases
  • March 12: 114 cases
  • March 11: 124 cases
  • March 10: 110 cases

64 patients have died from complications.

VACCINE DRIVE

Maldives began mass vaccinations against the COVID-19 on February 1. HPA stated that 1,775 people were vaccinated in the last 24 hours. All of those vaccinated today were from other atolls apart from the capital area.

Total 214,486 people have now been inoculated under the program; 121,630 from the greater Male’ region, and 92,856 from other atolls.
