A new cluster of COVID-19 has been detected in the southern city of Fuvahmulah.
In a press conference of the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC), spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said that a new cluster had been observed from the island and that those in contact with the individual who tested positive from the new cluster had also later tested positive for the virus.
“A case unlinked with the current cases detected in Fuvahmulah has been detected, and six others in contact with the unlinked case have also tested positive,” said Dr. Nazla.
COVID-19 was detected in the southern city on February 7 after a random sample tested positive. Others in contact with the positive case were also tested. A total of 36 others have tested positive for the virus since then.
The number of cases detected in other atolls has also increased. Currently, there are 223 active cases in 43 different islands, according to the HEOC.
