The Education Ministry of the Maldives has instructed schools in the capital Male' City to be conducted online due to the spike in COVID-19 cases in the nation.
A short statement issued by the Ministry tonight read that online classes are to be conducted for Grades 1-6 for the next two weeks. The move means that starting from Sunday, schools in the capital will be conducted online for the stipulated grades until February 25.
Schools were only reopened in January with strict safety measures in place against the virus.
The move comes in light of a significant increase in cases which have seen more than 100 cases confirmed almost every day. Health authorities have also imposed strict measures on the public such as a curfew and vehicle ban to effectively curb the spread of the virus.
