Health authorities have confirmed three new cases of COVID-19 in Fuvahmulah City.

Health authorities have been conducting random sampling in Fuvahmulah since last Sunday to detect a possible community spread in the southern city.

Fuvahmulah City Deputy Mayor Mohamed Lirar told Sun this Wednesday that additional COVID-19 cases have been confirmed from the 150 random samples taken in the city.

Fuvahmulah has been under monitoring since Tuesday, after two random samples came back positive for COVID-19.

Fuvahmulah Hospital said on Wednesday that they have identified that one of the people who tested positive is a contact of a person who tested positive for COVID-19 while in home quarantine after travelling back from Dubai.

The hospital tested more people linked with the person in question, and the results on three of them came back positive.

With that, cases linked with the Dubai cluster has risen to 4, said the hospital.

Fuvahmulah City has closed down schools and banned visits to houses as a measure to control the spread of the disease.
