Addu City has rolled out additional measures to control the spread of COVID-19, including a temporary ban on dine-in services at restaurants, citing the likelihood of a community spread in the city.

Addu City Council announced on Monday that the new measures will remain in effect for as long as Addu remains under monitoring or until the council decides otherwise.

As such, cafes and restaurants have been ordered to suspend dine-in services and provide only away/delivery services starting 04:00 pm this Monday. Cafes and restaurants have also been ordered not to conduct cash transactions, and to ensure employees adhere to Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s guidelines.

The council has also ordered for street food stalls to be closed, and for shops not to exceed the limit when admitting customers and take additional protective measures.

The council has also banned gatherings in parks and other public locations.

Addu City has two active COVID-19 clusters; one in Hulhumeedhoo linked to a MTCC worksite and one in Hithadhoo.

The city now has 40 confirmed cases.
