Two people treated at a flu clinic in the Hithadhoo district of Addu have tested positive for COVID-19, prompting authorities to suspend travel in and out of the city.
A spokesperson from Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) confirms Addu City is now under monitoring.
Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq told Sun that one of the people who tested positive is a resident of Hithadhoo, while the other resides in another district of the city.
They both work in the same office, and went to the flu clinic after they developed symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
COVID-19 cases have also been confirmed from Hulhumeedhoo, another district in Addu. Hulhumeedhoo, which was placed under monitoring on February 4, has 18 confirmed cases.
Addu City Council had strengthened measures in the city following the cases in Hulhumeedhoo, imposing a temporary ban on traffic in and out of the district. The council also imposed a temporary ban on travel in and out of both Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo for as long as Hulhumeedhoo remains under monitoring.
Fishermen from Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo have also been banned from fishing, and from selling their fish at the Addu Fisheries Complex.
