Positive virus cases from atolls on the rise, multiple islands under monitoring

The number of positive COVID-19 cases identified from islands apart from Male’ City is on the rise leading to more islands being placed under monitoring mechanisms. 

153 active cases have been detected in 41 islands, including many in home-quarantine. 

Islands under monitoring include H. A. Muraidhoo, M. Kolhufushi, G. A. Dhevvadhoo, and A. A. Mathiveri. 

85 cases of the virus have been identified from the Dhevvadhoo cluster while 25 have been confirmed from Kolhufushi. Muraidhoo was placed under monitoring due to a case of re-infection while four cases were confirmed from Mathiveri. 

Positive cases have also been identified from resorts such OBLU Sangeli as well as Anantara Kihavah and Emboodhoo Falhu. 

HPA has advised taking precautions against the spread of the virus after the increase in cases. The Maldives has so far confirmed 15,841 cases of the virus with 1,644 active cases and 163 hospitalized cases. 52 deaths have been reported in relation to the case.

The increase in cases coincides with the commencement of vaccinations in the nation.
