Protest to be held in support of implementation of Islamic Sharia

A protest is to be held on Friday, in support of implementation of Islamic Sharia in the Maldives.

The protest, named Thanfeez – which means ‘implement’ – is organised by a group of youth who are not identified as any one organisation.

Ajnadh Ali, a senior organiser of the demonstration, told reporters today that the protest will focus on Qisas and the implementation of the death penalty, and that it will take place at 4:00pm at Artificial Beach on Friday.

He said that the demonstration will be participated by religious scholars and youth who love Islam, and that its purpose is to pressure the government, parliament and other authorities to implement Islamic Sharia.

Azmath Jameel, who is also working on organising the protest, said that the only way to restore peace in the country is by implementing Islamic Sharia.

He called on all Muslims to participate in this demonstration.
