Permission to be obtained before disposing of foodstuff waste

Male’ Waste Management Section has announced that permission must be obtained before expired foodstuff can be disposed of in the Male’ Waste Area.

The Waste Management Section, which comes under Male’ City Council, said that companies or shops should obtain written permission before any expired foodstuff can be disposed of in the Male’ Waste Areas 1 and 2.

“It is prohibited to remove garbage from Male’ Waste Areas 1 and 2. Male’ Waste Area 2 is dedicated to general and foodstuff waste, while Male’ Waste Area 1 is dedicated to stones, sand, wood, etc.,” says the announcement.

Male’ Waste Management Section said that this rule had to be established following complaints that people not only remove garbage from the Waste Areas, but also sell them.

Police arrested four people on 3 October, for selling expired chicken that they removed from the Waste Area.
