Police have cordoned off a major road in the capital Male’ City after discovering drugs in the dickey compartment of a car on the road.
The drugs were discovered in a car located on Fareedhee Magu of Male’ City. Police officers are now at the scene conducting a search of the vehicle.
The vehicle is being searched in the presence of six individuals believed to be connected with the bust.
Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has also tweeted that the road was closed to conduct forensics on a car suspected to contain huge amounts of smuggled narcotic drugs.
The Commissioner said that the Drug Enforcement Department, Drug Intelligence, and Marine Police had been operating on the sea and land for more than a week for the operation.

CP Hameed also confirmed that 10 individuals have been arrested in connection with the drug bust and that police had searched multiple locations for the operation. Further details are to be revealed in due time, according to the Commissioner.
Police have since confirmed that the street value of drugs found in the car today was equivalent of MVR 71 million and weighed 71 kilograms.
