MNDF SPG body guards assigned for seven ministers

Following the remorseless murder of Member of Parliament for Ungoofaaru, Dr Afrasheem Ali, Special Protection Group (SPG) body guards of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) have been assigned for seven Ministers, informs MNDF Colonel Abdul Raheem.

MNDF has not indicated the names of the seven Ministers, out of a total of sixteen Ministers.

SPG body guards act as body guards for the President, Vice President, Speaker of Parliament and Chief Justice.

Abdul Raheem said that there are no plans to provide this service to lower level government officials.

Some of the 178 MNDF SPG body guards have obtained training abroad, while others have obtained training in Maldives from foreign experts.

Sun Online understands that the body guards assigned to the seven Minsters had been trained in the UK.

MNDF SPG body guards acted as body guards for the eight leaders of SAARC countries who arrived in Maldives last year for the 17th SAARC Summit in Addu City.
