The Ministry of Health has said that the risk of HIV spreading in Maldives is currently extremely high.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the project Enhancing the Response to HIV/AIDS in the Maldives, Minister of State for Health Lubna Zahir said that high risk behaviours for spreading HIV is increasing in the Maldives.
“We have collected information that shows that behaviours that contribute to the spread of HIV are increasing at an alarming rate. The risk of HIV spreading fast in the Maldives is extremely high,” she said.
Lubna stressed the importance of educating the youth on HIV, and said that the risk of HIV is higher among drug users as injecting drugs is the fastest way for HIV to spread.
