COVID-19: Maldives identifies 94 cases over 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA), has announced 94 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 12,546.

According to HPA, the new cases include 38 locals and 56 foreigners. 49 of the cases were identified from the greater Male’ region, while the remaining 45 cases were identified from other atolls. Out of the cases identified from other atolls, 42 were confirmed from Rahfalhu Huraa, which is a resort development project of world-renowned tourism brands.

Meanwhile, 22 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 11,497.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 997 active cases.

There are 320 patients in isolation facilities and 80 in hospitals.

1,678 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.

Maldives identified its first COVID-19 case on March 7, and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic less than a week later on March 12.

45 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.

There are active COVID-19 cases in 13 residential islands outside of the greater Male’ area.

There are also active cases in 27 resorts, including 42 tourists and 158 staff.
