Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that the number of dengue, common cold, and diarrhea infections confirmed in the Maldives was lower in 2020 when compared with the previous year.

HPA statistics show that only 12 cases of dengue were reported in September while in October the figure was reduced to eight. Dengue infections were also lower when compared with 2019. HPA advised taking precautions against mosquito-transmitted diseases despite the lower cases.

When compared with 2019, the number of common cold cases were also reduced. However, the number of cases was on the rise in October when compared with the previous month. In total, 3,154 cases were reported in September while 5,782 cases were reported in October.

In October, diarrhea cases were also on the rise. In September, 767 cases were reported while in October the number increased to 1,003. This is still lower when compared with the cases for the previous year.

The lower cases come at a year where a change in consulting with doctors due to COVID-19 has been observed.
