Maldives records 35th COVID-19 fatality, breaking a near three-week lull

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Sunday that a COVID-19 patient hospitalized at Dharumavantha Hospital in Male’ has passed away.

HPA identified the deceased as a 56-year-old Maldivian woman.

She was being treated at a specialized COVID-19 unit located on the 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital, and passed away at 02:20 pm this Sunday.

“This is the 35th #COVID19 death in the Maldives,” announced HPA.

The fatality comes after a near three-week lull in the COVID-19 death toll, after the death of 90-year-old patient on September 21.

Maldives has 10,859 confirmed COVID-19 cases. 9,683 patients have since recovered, and the country currently has 1,135 active cases.

74 of the patients are hospitalized.
