An additional case of COVID-19 has been confirmed from H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi, linked with a boat that travels between the city and Male’.
The first case linked with ‘Faalhu’ boat, the captain, was identified on Friday, prompting Health Protection Agency (HPA) to implement monitoring mechanisms in both Kulhudhuffushi and H. Dh. Nolhivaram, where the boat had made a stop to before travelling to Kulhudhuffushi.
Two more of the boat’s crew tested positive on Saturday.
An official from Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital confirms that an additional case was confirmed this Sunday, a person who was placed under isolation after making direct contact with one of the crew members who tested positive.
With the four cases linked with the ‘Faalhu’ boat, and one person who tested positive while in home quarantine, Kulhudhuffushi now has five active cases.
Health officials continue to be engaged in conducting contact tracing for the cases linked with ‘Faalhu’ boat.
51 people have been placed under isolation so far; including 46 from Kulhuhuffushi and five from Nolhivaram.
Maldives has 10,098 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 53 new cases recorded this Sunday. 8,847 patients have since recovered, while 34 have died from complications.
The country currently has 1,210 active cases. 83 patients are hospitalized.
