National Health Insurance Scheme to be carried out with Allied Insurance

The Government has decided to carry out the national health insurance scheme in unison with Allied Insurance, a subsidiary of the State Trading Organization.

Sami Aqeel, the Director of the Tender Board of the Ministry of Finance said that three parties had expressed interest in providing universal insurance in the Maldives, and that only Allied Insurance had filed applications with complete documentation. He also said that the fact that Allied happens to be the largest insurance service provider in the nation was also taken into consideration.

The project costs 720 million Rufiyaa. The venture would be jointly conducted, with 40 per cent Government share and 60 per cent shared by the service provider.

The project was announced for bid during October this year. The other two parties which had submitted bids were Sri Lanka Insurance and Amana Takaful.

Sami Aqeel did not give any details about the amounts of premium for the national universal insurance scheme, and when asked about it, he said that it would be decided after negotiations.
